How do I learn English?

Somewhere I heard that you can’t learn well other languages if you don’t know pretty well your native language first. I think this is true, because how will you learn how to express yourself in a good way in other language if you don’t even know how to do it in your own? I even think that’s why for some people is so hard to learn new languages and for others is so easy. So to try to improve my English I also try to improve my Spanish first.

I also like when I have the opportunity to talk English with people that actually have it as their native language, I think that’s the best way to learn how to express yourself and know where your lack of abilities are. Even when I’m too shy with people I don’t know and even more if we’re talking in a language that I’m still learning, after a while I can have enough confidence to just talk without thinking word by word what I have to say and those are the times when I think I speak the best.

Having this thought at mind, I like to train myself in the language but I don’t usually get the chance to find someone or somewhere with people that talks perfect English, so I train my ear listening songs, movies, series and podcasts in English without subtitles and it helps me to get used to expressions and intonations.

But the best help I could get is in class; if I have doubts I can directly ask them and share with my classmates to improve together. Also the blogs we do on Fridays had been helping me to learn grammatical and orthographic rules and how to express myself even better. But more than that, the classes at the University are so similar to the ones I had at high school. We even used the books from the same editorial!

Do I have a problem with the faculty?

Well, to answer this question I’m going to tell you a sad story.

I came to the university from a network of mini-hells called ‘’Emblematic Lyceums’’, every aspect of those places are horrible. The people tell you that they have excellent education to be municipal schools, that they are the best of the best and the people in charge of those lyceums tell you the same, but then you discover by yourself that everything is false.

First of all, the infrastructure is horrible, either you have water leaks, don’t have windows or the ceiling is just falling down into pieces, maybe all of it at the same time during winter. But that is not a big deal, you can easily get used to it even if that’s not positive. The worst thing about is the human quality of the people working; you’re almost nothing more than a number for them, they tell you that they care for you while in the practice is nothing like that, they just treat you like a thing and do the impossible to adjust you to their standards (the clothes you wear, how you look, how you talk to them, how good are your grades, etc.), being the academic one the most important they just put you under incredible pressure, making you have lots of exams, works, essays, videos and paintings to make. They want you to be perfect in everything and lots of classmates end up with serious psychological problems for that. 

That aspect was the worst for me, I don’t even know how I ended up graduating alive of that place xD But I have to tell that not everyone were horrible persons, there were some teachers and functionaries that knew everything we were been through and they really cared about us.

Honestly, I expected the same from this university, and even if I’m told that it’s kinda the same that in the emblematic lyceums in other faculties, this place is other world for me. The difference start even at the entrance where the guards smile at you just to say hi and not to check you to see if they can take something from you or punish you for something.

Being here is a relief for me. In comparison the workload, the faculty facilities, the human quality, the teaching methods and how good the teachers are is WAY better than it was before for me.

Expressing opinions and those things

First of all, I’m telling that I am not a person of politics in the way that I don’t like to get involved into national/international political themes; it’s just not of my interest. But that doesn’t get me apart from having opinion in some areas. I’ll start from the easiest ones for me.

What is your opinion about the legalization of abortion in the 3 cases?

I’m in favor, in fact, for me doesn’t even need to be in ‘’the 3 cases’’, I’m in favor for the free abortion. Principally for what it means for women and our lives, the freedom of not being afraid that something could just go wrong and that we’ll have nothing or no one to protect us.

What is your opinion about legalizing marijuana and other drugs?

I’m supporter of the thought that every person has the right of do what they want to them and the intelligence enough to decide for themselves what’s good. Also I think every kind of limitation would make people want even more what’s forbidden. That’s what I think drugs must be legal.

What is your opinion about violence on television?

You can show nonsense violence, which I hate and avoid. You can show violence with a reason, to recreate an event of the past, to show art, to express something, which I think is the most valid way to show it. But even when I don’t like nonsense violence, one of the things that annoys me the most is the censorship of expression, or the censorship itself. So I don’t think it should be forbidden.

What is your opinion about buying instead of adopting pets?

I think I’d expressed enough how liberally are my thoughts, and even when I think that buying pets can carry wrong practices and the best choice for everyone (pets, owners, world) is to adopt, I won’t be the one prohibiting people to buy an exotic  pet or a breed dog if that’s what they want, even when I don’t think they should be seen as a consumer good.

Post-grade Student?

Well, it's pretty hard to think about doing post-grades studies when I'm more into actually get a title xD like, I'm really frightened with having good grades and all 'cause even if in high school I get used to not be always the best in every subject and not get stressed about it, it's hard to accept it at the U. Actually, I'm really messed up at controls and tests 'cause I get afraid and that's totally new so I'm more focused on working on this first of all.

But at the same time, I've always had a sort of talent for the linguistic side (I mean, talking, writing, convincing people), by talent I mean it's easy for me and comes out alone, and thanks to that, the marketing area or everything that involves it has my attention. One of the first days of classes someone doing a talking in the aula magna told us that doing some kind of studies related to finances and marketing is actually a good idea and that made me really happy. But even though I like it, it's not something to think at this moment, it's possible that I won't even end up in something like it at all 'cause I also love the clinical area.

So, my final answer to this is the question is that I don't even want to think seriously about it, I just want to be focused on today and that's it.

Future Job?

Well, I think as we all are studying here we will end up working in an area of our careers; almost everything will be indoor works on decontaminated areas.

Being part of a team to help people is
something I always wanted to do 

 But as a more complex answer, I can say I'd like to work as a clinical pharmacist thanks to an orientational speak we had two weeks ago on our section and because I'd always loved hospitals. But the other areas like primary pharmacy or industries are very interesting as well, especially the primary one because it has a lot of outdoor work.

I mean, look at it, is a little piece of heaven 

That is my ''rational'' answer, the job I think I'll have thanks to where I am now. But sometimes I think about going outside the city, somewhere lost with good company and just live doing small jobs to get what I need to live, but I don't really think that I could get used to live with the less my whole life, even less now that I'm studying, I just won't stop at this moment! But actually, there's a way to ''achieve'' this dream while still working on my future career. I hope sometime in the future I could do this, the plan is to gain experience and save money to go to work somewhere in the south, maybe riding a pharmacy of my own, or work on a hospital there. I just love to think about living stably on a beautiful, cold but warm and calm place like the south.

I love small pets like rodents, birds, new born cats and dogs.

Hedgehogs are so cute and funny

As a child I always wanted to have a hamster, but it couldn’t be, so now I started to have different small pets, like a hedgehog called ‘’Sonic’’ or a gerbo called ‘’Shushu’’ that a friend of mine gifted to me. I enjoy watching them running around, hiding in small places and trying to climb things just to fall off later!

On January this year, we moved to another house we had near the campus so I won’t have to travel long distances every day. The people that were living on this house had to move, but they had a dog that they couldn’t carry with them so me and my mom decided to take care of this dog.

At first she was very scared of us and stayed on the farthest corner of the garden. Little by little, she get used to us, and now she loves us like she had always been part of the family. 

I never had a dog that was ‘’mine’’ (A cousin that I lived with had an Akita called ‘’Akane’’, she was very kind, patient and beautiful. We really loved her.) so watching this dog falling in love with us was a new and lovely experience to me.

The Best of the Best

I'll be honest, I don't usually read or watch a lot of movies for pleasure, even less the books for the school. But sometimes, reading by obligation I stumbled with the book that's my favorite even now.

I'm talking about ''Les misérables'', written by Victor Hugo. I remember being reading this years ago and being fascinated about the plot twists, drama and the little coincidences along all this masterpiece. I, as a narrative fan, totally recomend this book.

By the other hand, I'm a lover of the animation, of study every frame and it's fluency, the love in every background detail, the lipsync, everything is beautiful and talks a lot about the dedication and love behind the work.

I also have to say that I love rodents

And who's works are the best in this area? Disney - Pixar's ones. And again, as a narrative lover, I think Brad Bird is the best director, being ''The Incredibles'' his best work but ''Ratatouille'' my favourite. The ambient, the music, the details, the characters, the hole story make me fall in love every time I see it.


And that's it, as you could see my favourites are really nothing out of this world.

One of my best holidays ever

Since I'd already told you about one of my journeys, I'm under the obligation to show you another of them.

Years ago, maybe three, I made a journey with my mother and one friend of her, the thing about this trip was that it was going to have a lot of different stops while we were on it. And what I am going to talk about is it's first stop.

After the first scale in "International Airport El Dorado'', we arrived to a little airport in Cartagena de Indias, called ''Rafael Núñez''. The first impression I had was like drowning in that moist heat. I hate high temperatures and there was auwful, but I get used to it sooner than I thought.
We went to the hotel and I was surprised with it, inside it had a lots of animals living on their natural environment, full of trees, plants and little rivers right next to the rooms, the pool and the restaurant.

The rooms were huge, so when we rested after the long flights, we decided what we were going to do next.
The answer was go to a little rustic bus in which the people have parties, take alcohol and enjoy a trip around the city to end up in a big party with all the other people who also were in a bus! It was awesome.
The next morning we went to sightseeing a place called ''Ciudad Amurallada'', it was beautiful and had lot of things to do and see. As we learned, that place was to defend people from enemy threats.

Once we were done with that, we packed our things and we were rady for the next stop in our big journey...

The Wonders of Travel

The many different views of the world are amazing.

The fact is I never really know where I want to go until I'm already there.

Animal Kingdom, Walt Disney World

The last time I left the country was to go to Walt Disney World, I tought that out of all of the parks to visit Animal Kingdom was going to be the one I would like the less. 

But the day I visited the park I was in love with the different views it has to offer. The beautiful decoration, the hole ambient left me in love with the sights and wishing to be lost somewhere in the Southern part of Asia just to explore all the wonders it has to offer.

The fact that being there actually made me want to go and learn about other places and things I  never thought I would be interested in, and that are so far away not just in distance but in culture, was one of the things I loved more about this journey. 

I just hope is not as hot as it were in Orlando!

The immersion on the world were fantastic 

And that's just one of the many things I could saw in this park. I hope someday I could talk about how amazing the Pandora's area were, with all those colours and structures literally out of this world. Sadly, it's a place I could never ever visit more than in the movie.
